UINR organized a series of open houses in March to inform the five Unama’ki Mi’kmaq communities of our plans to develop a management plan for the Bras d’Or Lakes watershed. George Paul facilitated the community meetings and his presentation determined what types of activities that UINR should be focusing on. Issues such as science research, enforcement and environmental management plans were discussed with the goal to have people become more actively involved in protecting the Bras d’Or Lakes.
Issues that UINR should be addressing include climate change, declining fish stocks, sewage, contaminated shellfish areas, destruction of wildlife habitat and invasive species.
Large format posters were prepared using photographs from George Paul’s portfolio. These provided background information on UINR, CEPI and the state of the Bras d’Or Lakes in general.
